Our Children, Youth, & Families at a Glance

Join us for the many activities provided for the children of Cashiers United Methodist Church.  We strive to provide faith development and fun for all ages.

Godly Play is our curriculum for children three years of age through fifth grade.  The goal of Godly Play is to teach children the art of using religious language, parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action.  In Godly Play, we tell Bible stories to children to encourage them to enter into stories and relate them to their personal experience. Godly Play is concerned with the spiritual development of each child as an individual.  This curriculum follows the order of worship so children also learn the etiquette of being in church and creates a safe space for children - a place where their ideas, opinions, and gifts are deeply respected.

We have a very dedicated team leading Godly Play in Children's Church and the children are really enjoying this style of learning.  In addition to using the Godly Play curriculum on Sunday mornings in Children's Church, it is also taught twice a week in Mother's Morning Out, our weekday program for preschoolers.

 More Children's Activities

Sunday Mornings
Children's Church, using the Godly Play curriculum, is one of our Sunday morning programs for children from ages 3 - 5th grade. They leave with their leader form the 11:00 a.m. service after the Children's Sermon and meet for an interactive lesson.  Children who opt to stay in the service can get a clipboard at either entrance with age-appropriate activities to keep them engaged with the morning's scripture.
Our CUMC Children's Choir meets on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.  Children from 3rd - 7th grade meet weekly to learn about music, how to sing, music theory, and prepare anthems they will perform at the 11:00 a.m. service on occasion.  Contact Betty Morris, Director of Music at or 828-743-5298 to find out more.

Brooke Andrade and Missy Hermance are our youth leaders.  They are students at Western Carolina University where they are active in campus ministry.  They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the youth ministry and are providing a program of fun, outreach, faith development to our growing youth group.

CUMC Scholarship Program:  Cashiers area graduating high school seniors who will be attending a four or two year university, college, or vocational school are welcome to apply for scholarship funds provided through the Scholarship Program at Cashiers UMC.  The Scholarship Committee meets each spring to decide on scholarships based on the applications and funds available.  For more information, contact your school guidance counselor or click here for an application or here for a scholarship fact sheet.
For Younger Children
A nursery is available for young children on Sundays from 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM.  Staff members provide consistent and loving care of our young ones.  Each family receives a pager in case they are needed by the workers during the service.
Mother's Morning Out is an affordable opportunity for preschool-age children to receive care in a loving Christian environment while parents work, run errands, or enjoy some "me" time.  We offer 1 to 5 days-a-week options.  This program meets from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM which includes lunch that the child brings, and a snack which MMO provides.   For additional information contact the church office at 743-5298, email MMO Director Susan Stewart, or click here.
