The Rev. Wes Sharpe became pastor on July 1, 2019.  Along with Wes’ pastoral ministry, he has trained as a Family Therapist, Certified Multi-Addiction Therapist, and Trauma Specialist. He served in An Appointment Beyond the Local Church as the first full time Clinical Chaplain of the Juvenile Evaluation Center in Swannanoa.  This facility is now the Black Mountain’s Women’s Correctional Facility where there is a new Kairos Prison Ministry for women.  For ten years, Wes was a therapist with the Potter’s Touch UMC Counseling Center.  One of his places to meet with lay and clergy for counseling was the nearby Sylva First UMC.  Wes has followed closely the changes of many of our UMC churches in the mountain region through his years of service in pastoral ministry and his counseling ministry.  Wes is married to Linda Poss who worked at Mission Health for 40 years in both clinical management and strategic planning/business analysis.

Betty Morris serves as Director of Music Ministries and Stephen Ministry. Betty has a degree in music education from the University of Tennessee at Martin and has vast experience in teaching and leading music, childhood education, and nonprofit management.  She's a vital member of our community, serving on the boards of the Literacy Council of Cashiers and Hampton Preschool, and is an officer of the Blue Ridge Emmaus Community.  Betty and her husband Larry have three grown children and one grandchild.

Susan Stewart serves as the Director of our Mother's Morning Out program.  Susan has been with the program for over 12 years and brings her education, knowledge and experience, and skills in early childhood education to the program.  Susan, originally from Florida and Charlotte, has been in the mountains of western North Carolina for many years and enjoys the cooler summers.  She, and her husband Frank, have two grown children and one granddaughter, Samantha.

Bryan Heller is the church's accompanist providing the music for Sunday worship services in addition to special services and occasions.  Bryan is a music graduate of Western Carolina University where he studied piano performance as well as commercial and electronic music.  He plays for private functions and recently had the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall accompanying the Show Choir of Smoky Mountain High School.

Jan Staffelbach joined the church staff in September of 2014 as the church secretary.  Jan, originally from South Carolina, has lived in the mountains of western North Carolina for a number of years.  Jan has experience in church administrative work and has been a wonderful addition to our staff.  Jan and her husband Steve have four grown children in a blended family and several grandchildren.   When not at work, Jan enjoys spending time with her extended family and gardening.
