 More Children and Family Activities

Sunday Mornings
Children's Church, using the Godly Play curriculum, is one of our Sunday morning programs for children from ages 3 - 2nd grade. They leave with their leader from the 11:00 a.m. worship service after the Children's Time and meet for this interactive lesson that teaches children the art of using religious language, parables, sacred stories, silence, and liturgical action.  In Godly Play, we tell Bible stories to encourage the children to enter into the stories and relate them to their personal experience.  Godly Play is concerned with the spiritual development of each child.  This curriculum also teaches church etiquette and creates a safe space for children - a place where their ideas, opinions, and gifts are deeply respected.   In addition to Sunday mornings, Godly Play is taught once a week in our Mother's Morning Out program.
Clipboards with age-appropriate activities are available to children who opt to stay in the worship service.  They can be picked up at either entrance to the church or from an usher.

Thursdays
Our CUMC Children's Choir which usually meets on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. is taking a brief sabbatical during the winter.  Children from 3rd - 7th grade typically meet weekly to learn about music, how to sing, music theory, and prepare anthems they will perform at the 11:00 a.m. service on occasion.  Contact Betty Morris, Director of Music at blmorris1201@gmail.com or 828-743-5298 to find out more.

Youth

Brooke Andrade and Missy Hermance are our youth leaders.  They are students at Western Carolina University where they are active in campus ministry.  They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the youth ministry and are providing a program of fun, outreach, faith development to our growing youth group.

CUMC Scholarship Program:  Cashiers area graduating high school seniors, who will be attending a four or two-year university, college, or vocational/technical school, are welcome to apply for scholarship funds provided through the Scholarship Program at Cashiers UMC.  The Scholarship Committee meets each spring to decide on scholarships based on the applications and funds available.  For more information, contact your school guidance counselor or click here for an application or here for a scholarship fact sheet.

For Younger Children
A nursery is available for young children on Sundays from 10:30 AM to 12:15 PM.  Staff members provide consistent and loving care of our young ones.  Each family receives a pager in case they are needed by the workers during the service.

Mother's Morning Out is an affordable opportunity for preschool-age children to receive care in a loving Christian environment while parents work, run errands, or enjoy some "me" time.  We offer 1 to 5 days-a-week options.  This program meets from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM which includes lunch that the child brings and a snack which MMO provides.   For additional information contact the church office at 743-5298, email MMO Director Susan Stewart, or click here.
